Firecracker Maura Campbell, a widow and cancer survivor, finally leaves her small New England town for New York City. Her journey to pursue her passion for acting comes after enduring a violent childhood, three tumultuous marriages (one to a Cuban gangster who kidnapped her child), and an ongoing feud between her gender-fluid daughter and born-again son. In the city, Maura meets Maggie Wagner, an actor chasing her dreams for over 40 years. Although she has yet to achieve fame herself, Maggie comes from a celebrated family, with her uncle, Mark Rydell, having directed iconic films such as On Golden Pond with Hepburn and Fonda, and The Rose with Bette Midler.
